As many of you know, the big commercial jets that overfly Hull are not the only aircraft generating noise above our homes. Cape Air runs daily commuter flights between Provincetown and Boston, and their twin prop planes have been buzzing Hull neighborhoods at low altitude on their way to, and from, Logan International Airport.
Last year our organization hosted an online petition asking Cape Air to route their planes further from the Hull peninsula and out over water. Signed by hundreds of residents, the “Cape Unfair” petition was mailed in early October to the airline’s CEO and founder, Daniel Wolf. On October 28th Cape Air responded, and while that response included some finger-pointing at Logan air traffic controllers, the airline pledged to be a better neighbor by designating Hull as a "noise sensitive" area.
Cape Air's pledge to avoid overflying Hull whenever possible was promising news, but many of their pilots continue to buzz our neighborhoods with little concern for the noise they generate over our community.
We will be reporting these lapses to Cape Air operations but could use a little “coast watching” help. It’s simple really. Just jot down the date and time a Cape Air flight passes over your neighborhood (they’re the small, white planes with propellers on each wing) then email the information to capeairwatch (at) hullneighbors.org We’ll confirm the flight path and take care of the rest.
Thanks for your help… and all your ongoing support!
